The Song of a Star
by Shahinur Islam
I hear the star song
in the sadness-soaked voice of waves—
Never will she come back in any full moon
to break the ice of my hidden silence.
The waves come roaring from the distant shore,
go back again like an ignored beggar,
still come back to make me listen to the sad song.
Then heaped foams of a hundred years’ blue pain
break over from the deep cavern.
She who has held the hand of the darkest night out of love,
her soul won’t be aroused by the song of this light.
So my heart laments;
the song still continues,
and I keep listening.
